Associate Trainer
Mah Kong Howe designs and conducts training programs in project management, total quality management, productivity improvement, among others. He provides consulting and training services to manufacturing and service organizations.
He has worked on research and development projects in Australia (biomedical), hotel operations (front office) in Australia and Malaysia, and quality management in the Malaysian automotive parts manufacturing industry. He was Quality Manager and Quality/Design & Development Manager at Perusahaan Dapat Sdn. Bhd. (safety seat belts) and Quality Manager at Don Brake (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (brake pads and discs). Both these companies are Original Equipment and Replacement Equipment suppliers to the Malaysian automobile industry. At Don Brake, he was also extensively involved in the training and implementation of their Health, Safety and Environment programs required by their principals AlliedSignal Inc. and Bendix Corp. He has also worked with Chrysler personnel on their Supplier Quality Assurance system (precursor of the QS9000). He has developed and conducted numerous training programs at these companies, including TQM, auditing and supplier development and management.
He studied mechanical and biomedical engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and holds a Master in Business Administration (General Business Management) from the University of Hull, U.K. He is a qualified Lead Assessor in Management Systems and has completed a Certificate in Quality Assurance from the Sheffield City Polytechnic (now Sheffield Hallam University).
His interests in facilitating the learning processes of people in the workplace led him to an M.A. in Work Based Learning Studies (Project Management) with Distinction from Middlesex University, U.K. This is a research-based degree in which the primary focus is on the learning that takes place in the work environment as opposed to classroom learning.
Mah is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) in the USA and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®). He is also a Certified Professional Trainer (MIM-CPT) and a Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM).
He has presented papers at national and international management conferences and seminars. Currently pursuing doctoral studies his research interests are in TQM, systems science, project management, business ethics, and organizational behavior. His current research topic is the study of knowledge and learning systems at the project level in organizations.
He is a regular course leader in the MIM Diploma, Bachelor, and MBA programs as well as in other leading institutions. He has taught management classes since 1994 and supervised more than 60 dissertations at the master's level. A member of the MIM since 1991, he was elected to the General Council representing the Associate Member category since 1998. He is a recipient of the prestigious MIM Resource Person Service Award 1998-1999, Best Lecturer Award (BBBA) in 2005, and Best Lecturer Award (Maastricht School of Management MBA) in 2006.
